the tiny Vapourer moth larva seconds before birth at 13.32, Sunday April 24. It's a hopeless picture but for the very first time I've captured the moment of caterpillar birth. Hopefully I'll have many chances to perfect the photography. If you look closely to the left of the emerging caterpillar you can see the speck of dark head starting to eat its way out of the shell.

@koalagardens I agree, thought about time lapse too. May try when there’s a mass hatching. But I’ll be happy just getting a really good, clear shot seconds before birth. Got about 95 more chances I think!🤞
