Slicing thru life by joansmor

Slicing thru life

Feeling better this morning so attempted to get the rest of this weeks flashofred taken. We are expecting a snow storm tonight into tomorrow so I may be shoveling tomorrow morning. If the roads are bad enough I will go Thursday morning instead of Wednesday afternoon. But I did have serious problems with one of the shots I tried. I sliced this potato and tried using it in a shot but somehow the light from the moisture on the potato seemed to blur the shots. Any suggestions appreciated.
It's impressive in the black field. No advice from me as I'm terrible at still-life shots. They're harder than they appear, and I admire this one.

Slice potato
Wipe any moisture from said potato
Remove and dry knife
Re-insert knife ;-)

Excellent flash of red shot.

I think it’s a great photo-fun to view on black

Not sure what to do, but Margo's advice seems reasonable! This is very striking and graphic but also very artistic!

I think you did this well....I would never have thought a problem like that would crop up! Great title!

Very impressive and artistic low key pic! At first glance I thought that you were slicing through a door-knob; but upon looking closer I see that a potato makes a lot more sense :).

Great title, and a really wonderful composition with that strong black background.

Looks great with the black background. I could only suggest wiping the potato as previously suggested and then once you have it in LR pull the highlights right back... but maybe I'm not understanding exactly what's happening. Could you post a pic in another album for us to look at?

@vignouse several people have said this is low key. Have I finally done a low key when I wasn't really trying. I think it stands out too much.

@bella_ss I will and when I buy another potato I will try what every one is suggesting and post that. Just be patient we are in the having a snow storm and I maybe shoveling today so I can maybe get to work at noon. I could post a picture of that. LOL Struggling now for red for tomorrow as my kitchen is pink. Can I do a flash of pink.

Love this low key image, so perfect for the challenge.
February 13th, 2019
@joansmor Well, I think a flash of pink will be very pretty :D

The shot has great impact. I feel that the poor potato has been murdered most foul! Fav

Lovely capture ...

@bella_ss I found a red food package and took the picture this morning.

@joansmor I guess this image is not 'classic' low-key but they’re certainly kissing cousins. I think your problem is that your lighting is causing hot-spots - you can see on one the knife and a couple on the skin of the potato. I would leave the moisture on the cut potato and on the knife for added atmosphere but try to light more obliquely so that light is not reflected directly into the lens.

I think this looks good. But @vignouse certainly has a good idea. He is a master in black and white.

@henrir Aw shucks...
