A new venture

I love sourdough bread. So I decided to start my own sourdough starter This is just after I started it. I have to feed for a week before I can make bread but I can use the discard to make cookies this weekend.
I do love bread and I have also a starter that I regularly forget to feed. So I'm making starters several times a year! However home made bread is so good!

My Hubby is a big fan of sourdough. I call it his pet. When he had to spend a couple of days in hospital, he gave me very careful instructions about the care and feeding of the starter. We also use the discard for pancakes and sometimes you can inspire a friend to join you by giving them some discard for a starter. Good luck and have fun.

Hubby made sourdough throughout the pandemic, it was good but not great. So he started buying again although the really good bread has gotten very expensive now

I wish you luck! I tried it in lockdown but wasn't very successful

Good luck! We made it during lockdown( or should I say, my husband did!). It was very nice.

Sounds good- I had an Amish "Friendship Bread" starter many years ago- but I got tired of trying to find people to take the extra and/or baking with it, so I finally let it run out. Nice shot.

@olivetreeann According to my recipe I can refrigerate, and it won't grow. I have a few recipes like the muffins I am making this morning that I can make with the discard. Otherwise, I will probably just discard it. Let's see if I still have it when you come.
