One of our long time local stores closed earlier this year, Robnetts Hardware which had been in business 130+ years. I loved walking in and hearing the creak of the wooden floors. It may not have had the depth of merchandise but it had more character than all of the big-box hardware stores combined.
That's sad. I hate it when old family stores shutter their doors and we're left to the mercy of the big corporates that care not for the service a customer needs - just their dollars.
The big box hardware stores don't use hand trucks like that well-used one, either; they close the aisles and use forklifts. My dad owned a hardware store so I have always loved them. Nice photo.
@corinnec@marlboromaam@eudora@ljmanning@gardencat Thank you all so very much. I shot this through the window. I pressed my phone up to the glass which got rid of the reflections and glare, have to remember that trick.
So very sad. I really miss all the small businesses in the local parts of town. That is what I had growing up. I could walk to it and go in and out of the hobby shop, Baskin Robbins, toy store, book store, see a double feature at the movie theater, have a slice of pizza for lunch and be independent/safe as a young child. Those were the good old days! Very fond memories...
@gardenfolk I see the old Dairy Queen, now a coffee stop but glad that it wasn't torn down. I guess that it was the same for previous generations but now that I am older, I reminisce for the good old days when I didn't pay attention to all the news and such and bubble gum was a penny.....
@joysabin I get melancholy for simpler times, happy days, childhood innocence when I didn't pay attention to the news. That is why I watch as little news as possible to preserve my sanity and emotional well being. I do not want to live in fear, like the media wants you to.
