A bit later than hoped I took Monty off to Audley End House for a walk in the grounds. It's about a half hour drive so I was disappointed to find it closed but we unloaded and went for a walk down a lane opposite the house. At the end I realised I could go no further - I think it's a Sally Army College or something and was just thinking we'd have to rather embarrassingly go back by a load of workmen who'd only just seen us go past when somebody fired a shotgun. So we retreated at a very rapid pace with me glad that Monty isn't a bigger dog and the workmen launched in to a discussion about gun dogs that don't like guns. Anyway I parked up in Saffron Walden and at least went to the post office and butcher (to make up for Waitrose's delivery failures) and on the way home the views were stunning - pink with a hanging mist. I turned off to avoid crashing the car but didn't really get a good vantage point to take a photo and had to make do with a graveyard instead. I did get Monty out of the car but he spent the whole time trying to get back. Ho hum - another venue crossed off....
Huge thanks for putting both of yesterday's posts on PP!
Beautiful sunset and silhouettes. Did you see the photos of the sunset and swans at Welney on Look East yesterday? We were there on Monday - well worth going this time of year to see the swans. If you can take in a sunset as well it's magical. Don't take Monty though!
looks beautiful judith, i might have cropped the top off just above where the middle tree joins the black tree to it's right as it takes out a lot of the upper black and gives your shot more oooomph (that was me with my judges hat on. I am now a North and East Midlands Photographic Federation Judge and make my debut next month !!! Scary Eh !!!)
Chosen the right place at the right time for this lovely photo! Monty would still be a strong dog so I can see you being dragged up this road passed those unsympathetic workmen! fav
@busylady no but I've been during an amazing sunset a couple of years ago and it really is breathtaking - I took some pink swan photos! Really must make the effort to go over there again.
@phil_howcroft you haven't let me down Phil - I said to a Nigel last night that 'Phil will say I should have cropped the top off this and he's right!' I should have - too busy concentrating on removing the clutte from the sides! I like the branches but a bit too much black on the rhs.
I'd be delighted to have this as a make do photo! How bad is that walking by those workmen...sooo embarrassing! @busylady I agree Welney is such a wonderful place to visit at this time of year! We were up on the Ouse washes over Christmas....gorgeous! @phil_howcroft Hey congrats on your new role! wow! I'd better watch my offerings from now on!
@judithg oh dear judith LOL , "I said to nigel", glad I didn't disappoint you :) and I am pleased you saw what I saw too :) @annied@Cherrill Annie Cherrill , thanks :) my judging is just an extension of my photography, I've learnt quite a bit from judges who visit our camera club, so decided to give it a try. I might not like it or might not make the grade !!!
