Yesterday I received by email my husbands Grandfathers bread recipe.. He was pretty famous for his cooking skills, and all of his grandchildren can remember his bread, scones, and sponges as well as his preserves.. He use to enter them into competition at the local A&P show's... So pleased it turned out well and Hubby was very pleased with the result.. the only change I had to make was I did not use cake yeast, and I used an electric knife to cut it.. I don't think I will be making it a daily ritual as our pioneers did..
They all got up early in those days! Plenty of time to make the bread, heat the copper, do the washing, make scones for morning tea and clean the bathroom! This bread looks a winner - very fine crumb and well raised!
Looks pretty good - you must have bread making skills in your genes. I can remember staying with you guys as a kid and enjoying your mum's lovely fresh bread.
My husband is the bread maker in our house, when he has time. This looks delicious and nothing like the smell of freshly baked bread filling the house. I like how you have included the handwritten recipe which makes it personal and special.
I love home made bread way too much so rarely make it as I can't stop eating it. This loaf looks divine. I to cut with a electric knife otherwise it looks a bit gnawed, my skills with a knife are poor!
Beautifully photographed -- I love the slices and the recipe in the background. I'm imagining what a photo of mine would look like -- slices of the loaf in front of a bread machine? Not so magical as this image!
