While at the beach yesterday I saw these logs stacked and thought it was read for a bonfire.. but no it is a shelter and quite a cosy one at that.. just ready for the next occupants..
I often see stacks of wood like this on beaches in the Coromandal. I took a picture of one on Wahi beach & had a canvas done, it's on one of the bedroom walls.
Building these keeps the kids busy if you want a relaxing day at the beach - I think they started off being erected by people fishing from the beach as wind shelters but now they are everywhere; like those piles of stones you see on the roadside all through central Otago.
