We had to bring some cows home yesterday from our 'Runoff' block to the home farm as they are getting close to calving.. They have a 4 k walk back home so it is a bit slower coming home than it is going there.. Yesterday we had a bit of fog, but the sun still shone through and was quite warm and there was even steam coming off the road.. Just home in time as one of these girls had her baby 12 hours later.... Here we go again...
My that would take some time Julz! Good job you have quiet roads too, lovely to see them going over the incline ambling along! We used to take our heifers about two miles away by walking them along the road & I used to always get stressed in case they got into people's gardens in the village. I am going back thirty years though & im sure we wouldn't even think about it now too much traffic on the roads!
Think we only came across two car's and the girls a very well behaved and seem to know that they are on their way home.. My big worry is meeting another herd coming the other way ... it happened once... we popped our smaller herd into the neighbours paddock until they went past.. phew...
Thank you for tagging me! It is so nice to see the girls walking home. Brings back memories - although we have Herefords and not Holsteins!
Your photo is fantastic with the fog and rise of hill. It's definitely a FAV!
We aren't able to walk our girls on the road here in Ontario but would do a hundred miles in a week when we lived in Alberta.
It is really nice to see the farming way of life is alive and well in other parts of the world.
