Who pays $100 for a melon?

But the colors are lovely! And that seems like the most pampered melon I have ever seen.

A friend of mine whom I stayed with in Tokyo said that fruits and veggies in particular were through the roof expensive. There was one store she said that was known for its produce at prices like these. I wonder if this is the store? :)

that is so crazy. I can grow them for free at home....when the birds don't eat the seeds first, or when the bugs don't eat the melon, or when the sun doesn't rot it....sometimes I get one that survives!!!

@darylo -- I'm sure this is the same place. Takano Fruit is a famous place, encasing their precious fruits in wooden boxes, fancy wrapping, and even using velvet lining when even more expensive than this.

Holey, moley. Money must grow on trees in that place. That is downright daylight robbery.

Back when US$ 10 bought a decent bottle of wine, I tasted a $100 Proprietor's Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon after tasting that winery's $10 version. I understood why people paid $100 for it. But Melons?
