Blue Jellyfish on Hot Water Beach by jyokota

Blue Jellyfish on Hot Water Beach

Driving around Coromandel, the rain lifted briefly so we walked along the "Hot Water Beach" where people dug holes in the sand and sat in hot water pools. Seems everyone else knew in advance, so they wore bathing suits under their coats, and carried shovels to the beach. We were unprepared, and dressed in our warm jackets and looked more prepared for cold and rain. Along the beach were these blue jellyfish that had washed up in higher tide. This one moved around, pointing its "eye" (???) to me as I tried to photograph it. Reminded me of my childhood in Okinawa, but with very different looking jellyfish.

LR attempt of the day: seemingly successful, posted here nearly SOOC with cropping, a little highlighting and some white added.
It looks like an old-fashioned ladies' shoe!

The hot beach sounds fascinating! Not heard of that before. What a shame you were unprepared! Mind you sitting in a pool of water and finding a blue jelly fish joining you doesn't sound like fun to me! Lol! Sounds like this one had you in its sights!

I suppose it would be the same as getting a body scrub! Hope this jellyfish wasn't poisonous!

Hot water beach is fantastic place.. a real asset to the area.. this is a blue bottle jelly fish and packs a nasty bite/sting.. don't be sucked in by its pretty colour

@allie912 -- I never thought of that, but now that you mention it . . . ha!
@pamknowler @agedrunner @julzmaioro @golftragic -- glad to be able to say that I didn't get stung! That pretty blue is usually indicative of something we should be aware of, right? I just know from my childhood that jellyfish should be avoided. @bkbinthecity @graemestevens @taffy @kali66 -- definitely a great find on the beach in terms of photography! @joansmor -- you think of the wildest connection! @taffy @rosiekerr -- this was an easy LR one since I did so little to it before I was satisfied "enough" to post it. Thank you all for commenting!

You don't see a seahorse and blue rope.

Hate these guys when I'm swimming and they sting. Good for you for staying with LR

Oh my gosh, Joan! Now that's all I can see! @joansmor

I recall the stinging from my childhood, Jane. As for LR, it's been a struggle because I know Aperture so very well that I can do it in my sleep. At present, the "basic" set is gone and those sliders for black and white are nowhere to be found. Needing to get back home to my LR tutor, @Taffy

I remember the hot water beach well. So lovely to sit in that warm water. We get lots of these blue jellyfish on the Australian coast. They do pack a little sting too.

Looks very much like the Atlantic Portuguese Man of War that we see over here but mostly in southern climates. My son swatted at one once in water in Florida and screamed all the way to the ER where they put warm water on it and charged us $118 for the visit. This is a super shot. Glad you didn't touch it.
