get-pushed this week from Erik was to take a scene in black and white with a full range of tones, as in the zone system. I love these red-billed gulls and they look fab in black and white, with their pure white heads and breast , the grey wings, and black tail feathers.
@egoodling I can't say I understand it yet but this seems to fit the bill, do have a look at my other black and whites this week and tell me what you think
fav this looks fantastic in magnify - especially the delicate way she is primping her feather. The black and white has captured all the nuances of the greys and whites - whites being such a challenge. the eye is great. Love the nuances of the feathers on her back with the backlighting and the greying as it goes down her side. I am going to try doing the black and white in raw. I usually just import raw to the main photo editor in photoshop as I like working on a larger screen than the raw editor. So do you think that you can get better adjustments on the raw editor or bringing it into the main editor - silly question - probably you have already answered it.
@pam1 for this one I just desaturated, but the greyscale thingy in adobe raw seems to be easy to adjust, useful when you are wanting to enhance tones from coloured objects, try it and see what you think...
@jocasta thankyou, i have to admit to winging it and letting my instincts guide me for b&w, I have tried to read up about zones etc. but my brain doesn't take it in.
