Hasbro Inc., headquartered in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, introduced Mister Potato Head in 1952, and the toy grew in popularity and notoriety to the point where, in 2000, Mister Potato Head was named the official Family Travel Ambassador for the State of Rhode Island. 47 statues were placed around the state, depicting the stylish spud in various guises. (My favorite was Bishop Potato, dressed as an old style clergyman and placed in front of St. John's Cathedral in Providence.) Almost all of the statues have long since disappeared, unfortunately. Today's photo show's one of the survivor's: Betty the Learned Elephant Potato located behind the Chepachet Town Hall. The statue is named for "Little Bett", a circus elephant killed in Chepachet in 1826.
Today's processing involved a warm filter in Topaz Adjust, just to bring out the color a bit, followed by a levels adjustment for contrast. Since switching to manual, I've had to do very little processing to draw out the colors.
I think there may be a Mr Potato Head at the park at Roger Williams Zoo......I vaguely remember seeing one, but that was many many moons ago? :-) You can't help but smile when you see one.......fun shot! :-)
Thanks, everyone! Allison, there is indeed a Mr. Potato Head at the Zoo. I'm told there's also one in front of Casserta's Pizza on The Hill. I'll have to check those two out.
