This Old Tug by kannafoot

This Old Tug

The weather was perfect this morning when I left for work, so I thought it a great opportunity to swing by India Point and get a photo of that old tugboat shown from a distance in yesterday's photo. There are numerous subtleties about the scene that really capture my attention. The dark waterline on the tug is quite interesting. My guess is that it's virtually empty of fuel since I would think fuel is what provided the weight to displace so much of the boat. The weathering above that waterline is testament to how long the old tug had been in service. The other curiosity is all the graffiti on the pilings in the water! You have to be a pretty dedicated tagger to go out in a boat to leave your mark on the wooden pilings. Even at low tide, you can't wade out to those posts. Finally, off to the right, we see all the colorful graffiti on the remains of Shooters (a local nightclub that was torn down last year.) Of course, I like the reflections of the boat and the pilings, but those certainly take a back seat to the other tidbits in the scene.

Post processing started with a medium grunge HDR filter in Topaz Adjust. I then adjusted the dynamic exposure, contrast, strength, detail boost, sharpen, and dynamic saturation sliders. In PSE I added a levels adjustment to really pop the colors and provide contrast.
Wow. I really like the composition on this--the tug just off to the left and the reflection of the pilings. Really nice.
