Kayak Fishing

The original plan for today was to photograph the Red Brick School in Franklin, MA. It's the oldest continuously operated one-room school house in the nation, and since I was in Franklin today for a brunch it seemed like a good historic photo opportunity. The problem, though, was that the school house had nothing surrounding it to add compositional interest to the photo. Regardless of how I composed the shot, it just looked like a red brick building with the shades drawn. Boring, and no story to tell in the composition. I abandoned it. Instead, I stopped at Lincoln Woods on my way home and found this fisherman trawling in a kayak. The way he is dressed gives you some idea as to the weather today. Winter has decided to perform an encore and still has not relinquished the stage. I had to leave this one in color to show his bright orange foul-weather gear since it's central to the story.

Post processing started with a brilliant cold filter in Topaz Adjust. I then adjusted adaptive exposure, regions, and contrast. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.

Here's the high res version in Smugmug: http://kannafoot.smugmug.com/Photo-Challenges/PAD2013/i-F99qDbK/0/XL/2013%2004%2014_0074%20copy-XL.jpg
Cool shot and great processing.

The school house sure sounded good.
