For those that don't recognize it, this is a telephone. For those that do recognize it, let me explain why I'm not taking that for granted. Until recently, the only phone my next door neighbor had was a rotary phone not unlike this one. Her granddaughter was there one afternoon and asked if she could call her friend. (The girl was about 9 years old at the time.) After several attempts at placing the call, the girl told her grandmother that the phone wasn't working. The problem, however, was that she had never used a rotary phone. She was pressing the numbers and wondering why nothing was happening!
The phone in this photo has been in my family since 1971. Surprisingly, it still works. It's connected to a wall jack in my basement, which explains the grunge, grease, and grime that represents 42 years of basement abuse. It also comes in handy when there's a power outage since it's the only phone in my house that does not have to be plugged into an electrical outlet to work. There's something to be said for simplicity.
Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders followed by adaptive exposure, boost black, boost white, contrast, and protect highlights. In PSE I added a levels adjustment and a sepia photo filter.
