I was asked a couple of weeks ago if the Roger Williams Park Carousel is still in operation, so today I decided to post a photo of the carousel. As a kid, Roger Williams Park meant three things to us: the zoo, the pony rides, and the carousel. The zoo's still there although it's much bigger and has been modernized. The pony rides have long since disappeared, but as you can see a carousel still graces the grounds. Memory's a fickle thing, though. You see, despite what most people will think when they see it, this is not the one they would have ridden as a kid. Now, the original carousel was built in the 19th century and was one of the historic Looff Carousels. That was replaced in 1934, though, with Philadelphia Toboggan Company #44 purchased from Riverside Park in Agawam, Massachusetts, and that's the carousel that everyone remembers. In 1975, though, that carousel was sold to King's Dominion Park in Doswell, Virginia. The building you see before you was built in the late 1970s and bears no resemblance to the PTC #44 ride we all remember.

Post processing started with a classic filter in topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, and boost black. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.

Here's the high res version in Smugmug: http://kannafoot.smugmug.com/Photo-Challenges/PAD2014/i-HDTwm9V/0/XL/2014%2004%2001_0003%20copy-XL.jpg
A wonderful B&W shot, Ron, with a terrific tonal range. Looks really magical.
