Never a Good Sign

Murphy's Law states that, "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong." When it comes to my family, though, you can add the phrase "especially in the month of April" to that law. I don't know what it is, but April is a cursed month for my family. It always has been. I saw this year's scourge when I arrived home from work. Two National Grid trucks and a backhoe were blocking my driveway. That's when I noticed the huge hole in my lawn. It turns out that our mail carrier smelled gas when she delivered the mail today, and notified the gas company. They arrived (very quickly, I'm told) and determined that there is indeed a gas leak in the line connecting my house to the street. Lovely. Looks like I'll be ordering takeout for dinner tonight since there's still no gas available for my stove. Tomorrow's shower will be rather chilly too, if they don't get this fixed tonight. Did I mention I hate the month of April?
Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, and boost black. a levels adjustment was added in PSE.
@hayleymolloycook Thanks, Hayley! I'm glad they fixed it, but I now have what looks like a freshly filled grave in my front yard. Same dimensions, anyway! lol If anyone goes missing in my neighborhood, I know where they'll be digging!
@angiec Thanks, Angie! Well, the gas is back on, but they reset my hot water heater to the default setting. /sigh Took me months to find the perfect temperature when I bought it!
@cejaanderson I've seen the results of one, so yeah, I'd prefer not to experience it. Fortunately, the carrier had the presence of mind to notify National Grid. It took them less than 20 minutes to arrive and shut off the gas.
Aww, lets hope this gets fixed up as soon as possible! A wonderful capture of this somewhat annoying occurrence! It's Thursday's for my family, if anything is going to go wrong it will always be on a Thursday, no matter what! Guess we can be cursed together haha? :)
