Metal Detector

I went to Lincoln Woods after lunch today, planning to take photos of folks fishing from kayaks or canoes. There were quite a few people out, despite a light drizzle and cool temperatures. Since I was photographing scenes well away from shore, I had my 70-200mm with a 2x teleconverter attached to my camera. It was a perfect setup for the kayaks and canoes, but not so great for the photo I opted to present today. While standing on the shore of the lake, I heard some rustling behind me and saw this gentleman making his way through the woods with a metal detector. You normally seem beachcombers like this out on the beach, not in a wooded area! That seemed worth a photo, and I waited for him to be framed by some trees before taking capturing the scene. I prefer to use a 16-35mm lens for this type of scene, but had to make due with what was on my camera. Talking to him afterwards, he said that a lot of mountain bikers go through this area and they drop a surprising amount of change. He's even found rings and watches. In fact, he's been more successful here than on the beach, which really surprised both of us.

Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, and boost black. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.

Ron, your really going to have to reveal your secrets for street photography! Haha, yet another surprising and wonderful capture, someone you wouldn't expect to find in the woods! Lovely!
