Olney Pond at Lincoln Woods State Park is a kettle pond, formed when the last of the glaciers receded from this area around 14,000 years ago. There are numerous glacial erratics scattered through the park - large boulders deposited by the glacier - as well as glacial potholes in many of he granite formations. The large granite ledge in today's photo was exposed when the pond was formed and it has many glacial striations and potholes to document it's origin.
I've been wanted to get a good photo of the ledge for a while, and when I saw only one person sitting on the rocks, I decided today would be the day to capture it. On a weekend, that ledge is swarming with people, but I thought the solitary figure told a much better story.
Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, boost black, boost white, and protect highlights. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.
