Italianate Style

Providence, Rhode Island

I wandered around the East Side of Providence for a while after lunch today. These brick columns supporting a wrought iron fence caught my attention even more than the beautiful 19th Century Italianate style building behind them. The building is home to the Rhode Island School of Design admissions office, however it was originally a single family house. Designed by the famous architect Richard Upjohn, it was built in 1860 for Doctor and Mrs. Marshall Wood. It's now the largest surviving 19th century home in the state.

Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, boost black, boost white, and protect highlights. A levels adjustment and a black and white gradient map in screen blend mode at 50% opacity were added in PSE.

Here's the high res version in Smugmug: http://kannafoot.smugmug.com/Photo-Challenges/PAD2014/i-mXg3Gxz/0/XL/2014%2011%2009_0014%20copy-XL.jpg
