17 Layer Lacquer over teak and bamboo

My husband just came home from a vacation with one of our sons. He brought these beautiful handmade items from Bagon, Myanmar (Burma). He watched ladies hand paint these items. The cups are lacquer covered teak. They are light and feel great.
Absolutely gorgeous items. The work is magnificent. Enjoy them.
How interesting that they went to Myanmar. It's getting popular now that they opened up.

@anazad511 Thanks Ana, Both of my sons have been to Burma before so our oldest took my husband. He said it was an amazing place but was saddened by the poverty. On an interesting note. They prefer US currency. We knew that but it turns out they wanted new money. They would refuse the dollars no matter what denomination if it looked wrinkled. So if you go try to get new crisp currency.

@espyetta My husband said you could drink coffee out of them. they just need to be hand washed! It may take me a while to get the courage to use them.

@kathyladley Thanks for sharing the information. Yes, I am sure that poverty is a big issue, maybe more than Vietnam and Thailand. It's interesting but I have seen the same issue in different countries, that they don't accept the old bills. Do they accept credit cards? I doubt.

@anazad511 The only place that took credit card were the hotels and the man who ran the shop he bought the lacquered items at. That is interesting they only want new cash in other countries too.

@kathyladley Yeah, i can see that. That is so interesting about prefering new crisp bills (US) If I see super crisp new bills, I think "counterfeit." haha

the skill required to paint these.....wow......stunning

@espyetta Funny I thought the same thing about counterfeit! It would be interesting to ask them why they prefer new.
