The top one was a really odd book, not sure if I liked it or not.
The middle one was enjoyable but was too short, it would be a good book if the author would complete it.
The bottom one was pretty ordinary.
I haven’t read any of those, but I’m sure I’ve read something by Elizabeth Berg at some point. Wish I could have more time to read, lucky if I get through 1 book a month.
i'd like to know how you choose your books. when i came to canada some 30 years ago, i was like a child on Christmas whenever i would come across a book sale where i would always find a good read but unfortunately for the author was not in the bestseller list or just didn't get any good reviews or promotion.
i read the little blurb or synopsis on the inside flap or back of the book, if it intrigues me, i will read the first two pages and that would usually tell me if the book is worth my money and my time. there are books that are sometimes slow to grab my interest but i would try and read the first 10-20 pages and if i'm still struggling, then i throw it in my goodwill pile, or send it along with others to my nieces and nephews in manila. i love books, whether fiction or non-fiction, that are well written and informative. i love historical fiction as it drives me to open my history books or go to the library and read more on the underlying history.
@summerfield I think I started off reading the blurb on the cover, and I still do if it’s an author Ive never heard of but these days most books I read are by authors I’ve previously enjoyed or books recommended to me by fellow readers. I belong to an online book club so there are always recommendations available. I usually push through to about the 100 page mark before I toss a book I’m not really enjoying but I hate to give up, I keep thinking it’s going to improve “any minute” 🤣
I’m not saying that my job is any more mentally exhausting than others because it’s all subjective but while I’m still working full time in such a mentally draining career I find I much prefer to read lighter books so tend to stick to chick lit, biographies, crime and psychological thrillers.
