not a terribly common sight as koalas are loners. However, I've been quite surprised to discover that Bullet is allowing Dewdrop to 'tag along'. He doesn't like her approaching too close, but let's her 'hang out'.
I learn more about their behaviour all the time - no one actually knows much about koalas really, so it's an open field of knowledge to try and discover :) thank you for the awesome comments on my photos
So cool! I had no idea that they tend to be loners. I learn something new all the time. I love your shot and can really get a full appreciation for these loves in their environment. Big fave! 💕🐨
It's great that you are finding out more about these wonderful characters! I'm glad Bullet is allowing the close proximity of Dewdrop even if he does maintain adequate distance.
@gigiflower oh no they are loners, so they do not mate for life. the breeding season runs from roughly Sept - Mar and there is a lot of fierce competition from the males to pass their genetics on. The alpha male doesn't necessarily father all the joey's because he has so much territory to cover, and all males are opportunists...
@vignouse it's always hard to do that age comparison thing from humans to animals because humans mature at one of the slowest rates. So when i say she is like a 8 or 9 year old child, I only really mean in reproductive maturity. In terms of autonomous maturity to live alone and make her own decisions she is more like 17 or 18 years old. Old enough to carry out the basics of living without parents, but no real life experience yet. I love how your questions focus me to think about what I do know and how deep that knowledge really is :)
