Phoenix is the daughter of Racee from last year and has been coming back a little bit lately - good to see how much she has grown on.
Thank you for the awesome questions and comments on my photos.
@onewing each koala has to settle into their own home range, and have their own home trees inside that range. At around 12 months old joeys separate from mum and become independent. Then around 18 months old they begin to disperse to find their own home range to settle into for life.
This means that for a time they may roam for quite a distance, depending on many circumstances. Some of them head away in a direction and never return back. Some of them may loop around as they search.
Of course it's quite impossible to tell if Phoenix has been far away and looped back, or if she hasn't been far away the whole time :)
I know a lot about koalas, but I have more questions than answers!
VML how (your) Koalas seem to 'consider' their actions rather than behave serendipitously. Am delighted to be seeing your shots from the other side of our shared planet. Not such a long way...by internet!
