The secret is out - glad you are all so excited as it is huge. https://youtu.be/k-p_w9mVV3A shows the story and explains a bit of what a stage two kindy is all about.
Khanum was orphaned at only 7 months old and had some terrible pneumonia episodes but is certainly looking hardy now.
Oh how exciting, two new ladies on the block. How long will they be in the kindy enclosure? Is this the last stage before they have access to the rest of your property?
She’s beautiful! Welcome, Khanum and welcome, Dita!
I’m a bit lost. Is the enclosure open over the top? Are all the trees short enough that the ladies won’t be able to get to a tree outside the enclosure? Or, that other koalas could find their way in. (Corollary question: how do koalas handle fences?) do these two ladies have ear tags? I’m terrible with nose patterns, so a red tag narrows down for me which koala I’m looking at. Except for Bullet who is without his “earring”!
Will they remain with you until they don’t need kindy support any more? How exciting to meet the young koalas! Congratulations! Sorry for the lengthy message!
@kchuk yes it is open at the top and there is enough distance between the trees inside and the fence that they cannot get out by climbing to the fence.
the top of the fence you may have noticed has flat metal all around it which prevents the koala from climbing to the top and therefore over - it is on both sides, preventing koalas (like Bullet) climbing in as well.
The girls do have tags, but since both tags are in their right ears (because girls are always right 😂 ). It may help if you notice that Khamun is a much darker colour than Dita.
Yes they will remain here for about a month or a little longer and then they will be ready to be wild and free!!!!!
I always love questions 😀
So Exciting to see these little beauty's in kindy...they are gorgeous & scurried up those trees as soon as they were released...welcome sweet Khamun & Dita to Koala Gardens...a place to call your Home!
Congratulations on starting the stage 2 enclosure. Now that it is there I hope you will be able to use it for other rehabilitating Koalas if they are in need.
Oh, Khanum is gorgeous. Very interesting video of kindy starting up! I love how they both headed straight up that tree as soon as they could. Just lovely.
I love your new babies, ever so cute yet very different. The best thing that ever happened to them, was that they were brought to you. May they give you ( and us) many years of joy :-)
I had fun watching the video last night and was really impressed at how quickly they went up those trees. I know they're going to thrive with you and they're both adorable. So there are many cute shots ahead and this is only the beginning!
@beryl thank you, it's so lovely to have such hope here
