Antigone is a new neighbourhood developed since the 1980's on what used to be an army firing range. A Catalan architect used classical themes for the layout and buildings. It is mostly offices and affordable housing. It has been well-received but to my mind it seemed to lack greenery and human activity. They built a big shopping mall, the Polygone, at the end near the city center and I guess that sort of cuts Antigone off. If you want to get from the center to the river, then you would take one of the trams rather than walk. Also, Montpellier has some even more recent and spectacular architecture that incorporates lots of plants and trees, and they put Antigone into the shade. Shouldn't complain though, many cities would be happy to have affordable residential areas like this close to the city center.
What beautiful architecture, so nice to see all the arches in new designs instead of square boxes.
A lovely balanced shot, so pleasing on the eye, fav.
I think this looks a wonderful place to live. So much more pleasing than the boring boxes with windows we build here for affordable housing! Great photo!
