Todays theme was portrait, which is something I struggle with. I seriously find it very difficult to take pictures of people. It's not just taking the portrait that I find difficult (lighting, position, settings, etc.) but I am always worried that i'll do a bad job with the shot and the person will feel bad and think "oh, do i really look that bad in real life?"
My husband hates having his picture taken, but I finally convinced him to let me and he said he is happy with this one.
Hope everyone has a great weekend and thanks for the comments and views on yesterdays picture, I appreciate it!
1stly yay for the "husband" doing this I hate my pic being taken too. I like as usual the DOF the focus piont but also the B&W capture v colour. Top job Lauren............... :)
Well, if he's going to pose for anyone, it should be YOU!! LOL! Nicely done..though if I may offer a little critique, he has dark circles under his eyes, which appear to be more to do with the lighting rather than his actual face! Filling with a lamp positioned off to the side, or your on-camera flash with a tissue tied over it (cheap way to diffuse the hard, horrible look of on-camera flash) would solve this...overhead light commonly produces under eye shadows if it is the only light source.
Very nice picture. A few thoughts - take lots of pictures under different conditions and lighting. DoF, b/w color, soft focus, positions, flash, etc. See what works for you, now that you have a willing subject.
@tabbycat I really appreciate the tips! i'm going to try the tissue over the flash idea. in this picture i tried putting a lamp in front of him. i took the lamp shade of to give more light and then had the overhead light, and there was another lamp about 8-10 ft behind him to the left. He always has dark shadows under his eyes but maybe if i try the tissue technique it will help, so thanks a bunch!
I think it's a good, honest portrait. I don't think it looks like he has dark circles under his eyes either, it just looks like they are dropped shadows from the overhead light. He looks content, happy, as if he's enjoying the moment with you, helping you with your shots, Lauren. Capturing that instance is what really counts more than anything else. :)
It is a lovely portrait. I used to hate taking them too, but something along the way clicked and now I love it. There is something magical about capturing a person's soul or inner self.
first of all, for someone to hate having their pics taken, it was so nice of him to allow you to take his portrait after all!! i dont know why he doesnt like having his photo taken, i think he looks great. A nice natural smile and expression you have captured here. I say, WELL DONE :D
