A very welcome visitor to the garden this morning. He was looking a bit bedraggled in the rain but stayed around for a while. Neighbours have a fine fir tree with many cones on it just now although at this point he was under my own bird feeder. Another reason for feeding the birds all through the year.
That is so unusual. I have never seen one of these in the flesh. It would be interesting to know the migration route which takes it to Shetland. Do they come over from Scandinavia?
@korky No records of breeding in Shetland and they seem to breed early in the year. As a result some tend to come over from Scandinavia from late June to August when they have had a good year before heading south.
