Baptisia australis, or false indigo, has beautiful pea-like flowers in early summer. But it is also known as rattlebush or rattleweed, because of these wonderful seed pods. They make a very pleasing clacking or rattling sound before they burst.
Lovely shapes, perfect in the sepia colour tones.
I just harvested some false indigo seed to try and grow for next year, they are such a beautiful deep purple.
Thanks for the identification on the Bluebeard - Caryopteris clandonesis. :)
