Thanks all. Yes it does pop nicely on black! Note that SOOC doesn't mean "full auto"... I manually adjusted the exposure, as the light meter wanted to brighten up the scene. But that's exactly the tweak I would've done back in my film days. Except now, digital is "free" so I could try several exposures to get the one that matched my vision.
