"I am a lineman for the county
And I drive the main road
Searchin' in the sun for another overload
I hear you singin' in the wire,
I can hear you through the whine
And the Wichita lineman is still on the line" - Jimmy Webb (a hit for Glen Campbell)
This is not Wichita, it's a bit south of St. Louis. But this captured (for me at least) the lonely, yearning mood of that song.
WItchita Lineman is one of the great songs of it's day (recorded in 1968), reached #3 on the US pop charts, and #1 on the country charts. And was ranked #195 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time (in 2010). If you don't know it, you should.
Here's a youtube of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEdahTJ7i_Y
For the song title theme. And the Flash of Red challenge... And the Scenes of the Road challenge....
I remember that song. My folks used to play it all the time on our old record player when I was a kid.
This shot perfectly matches the song. Well done!
Thank you for entering the Scenes from the Road challenge!
What a great song and, as Wendy says, this shot perfectly matches the song. Congratulations on making the shortlist for the song title challenge :)
Good luck!
