Empty Barges by lsquared

Empty Barges

On the Mississippi River. Interesting that the draft is 13 ft at full, and less than 2 ft here.
Good capture

What a fascinating image - the subject matter and the actual composition are both so good.

@lsquared Thanks for the location. I just gave my son a book called The Great River by Boyce Upholt. When I heard the author speak, he talked about how beautiful the river is and he canoes on it! Where I live, the Mississippi is crowded with chemical plants and the currents are so strong that most people would be scared to canoe.

@eudora Interesting, I'll have to look up that book. Around St. louis, the river has lots of industrial areas, but also lots of "natural" ones. There's lots of barge traffic though. But I imagine a canoe could stay out of the main channel, away from the traffic. But I can't imagine paddling upstream, the current always seems pretty strong!
