Columba Church by maggiemae

Columba Church

I thought the floodlights would be on in front of this church, but no - I had to rely on the camera. It is certainly not as clear as it would have been but it does give a mystical feeling to this iconic church, opened in July 1883. It's Roman Doric Columns in front make it stand out above the town of Oamaru. I grew up a street away from this and of course, it was our church. When Dad died 40 years ago, a flood light in his name was built. He was a devoted elder of the church. I wasn't as devoted and loved it when I was sick and didn't have to go!
Beautiful architecture xx

It's very grand! My sister's friend used to tell her mum she was going to mass and then nip over to our house to eat crisps and listen to records - I'm sure she said a few prayers about not getting caught on the way over!

Wow, that's quite a place and a wonderful honor for your Dad. I skipped church as often as I could get away with it as a kid.
