Honey bait by maggiemae

Honey bait

Bread soaked in honey is the bait here for these cuties! Sometimes called a wax eye, or maybe a ring-eye or silver eye. They arrived yesterday, the first time this year.
So beautiful in this lighting, Maggiemae. Bread soaked in honey ... never heard of that ... but can imagine that it would draw the birds. Hopefully not the ants tho. :)

Good for you! Really nice shot. I want to put a feeder out but we have a difference of opinion here about the birdie eliminations,.....

@cdonohoue these birds are loved and wanted and there are plenty of them! Unfortunately they often fly too close to cats!

@karenann Karen, thankfully, we don't have ants here! Did when we lived in Auckland - there was a long trail along a wall overnight to a sweet source!

Beautiful capture - I love the light!

Neat capture and lighting. I would like to try that in one my of my small feeders but our squirrels would probably attack it before the birds even got to it ;-)

Nice capture. I shall ask my sister if she has tried bread and honey for birds. She makes her own suet for birds and other treats for them.

Oh wow never heard of that, I may have to try it! I have lots of honey around here, I think I have a slight obsession with it haha.

and lovely picture too :)

@AshleyMiller Are you a honey-eater and a songstrix too?
May 31st, 2012
@maggiemae Definitely a honey eater, not sure what songstrix means? lol
May 31st, 2012
@AshleyMiller The birds who like the honey are generally song birds!

@maggiemae Oh hehe... yes I just love birds in general. We currently have mockingbirds nesting in the cherry tree right next to our deck so sadly they have been scaring away all of the other birds. At least their nest is low and I get to peek in on it everyday :) My favorites around here are bluebirds and goldfinches. We also own 2 budgies :)
