Made it over the miles to Denver and wait for checkin here. The hotel is like a concrete box on the outside so it is a pleasant surprise to come inside and see this atrium! John is waiting there at the check in desk.
Three good things:
1. Came through the customs unscathed except for John being taken aside to check for drugs in his computer and I was taken aside for a personal search for explosives! I suppose I looked very suspicious being a blonde!
2. Managed to get out of a tricky situation when John's heavy cart skiddadled off the pavement into a beautiful new SUV. The owner was going to call the police but we disappeared!
3. After about 1 hours sleep in 34 hours, there was a soft bed waiting in this hotel for our No 2 Sunday night!
Enjoy your time there. It must be paler hair colours. My hair is white and I had my hands swabbed for gunshot residue, I must look like a gun toting granny!!!
Oh my goodness it sounds very exciting so far!! Have a good rest in your soft bed and you will be ready for your next adventure - lets hope the police are not involved this time!!
@maggiemae Are you going by motorbike?! It is so wonderful to have you in our country! l wish I were nearer to your destination! I would love to meet you in person!
@grammyn Thanks for your enthusiasm, Katy! I was thinking about you today and wondered whether you had actually recovered from your accident? Not really motorbike riders, just associated with the motorbike industry and events. Going by car.
@maggiemae That will make it a much more comfortable ride!
Thanks for asking about my recovery! I am still in the process of getting back to 100%.. Still some stiffness in my arm that was broken and of course the neck and muscles are slowly improving. There is still a little bit of pain but nothing that is worse than comes from working in the garden all day. I also have cataracts that will be operated on soon (not from the accident) and I am really looking forward to being able to see again. Right now my right eye is so bad that it makes it a struggle to see and my 365 is suffering from that !
I hope you are catching up on your sleep after all it took to arrive in Denver and such a long trip. Had to laugh a bit at what you wrote for your three good things. In case you are on Facebook at all during your trip, here is a direct link to me: https://www.facebook.com/darlene.solem
Sure wish we all lived close together and could meet up with you while you are in the states. Have a wonderful time.
I have caught up with you at last! Posh hotel.......you are seeing the world! Made me laugh at the thought of you smuggling in explosives......that's what becomes of having lots of destinations on your passports! I wouldn't think any New Zealander could be considered as a terrorist!
Liking the personalised tee shirt....John won't get lost! Hope the jet lag experiment is working! Lovely hotel....enjoy the USA!
@happypat thanks Pat for your remarks! Its a new passport - they don't know we have been to tons of other places and although the hotel looks posh, its very tired in a lot of places but the beds are SOFT!
What an interesting trip!! Looking forward to photos of the rallies. Minneapolis has some great restaurants and if you have free time, walking around their lakes is a really beautiful way to spend a late afternoon/early evening. I spent a year there many years ago. Have a wonderful time while in the US!
@maggiemae Oh ok, so you are seeing some events, not so much touring places? Isn't there a great mall in Minneapolis? Is that where Mall of America is? Enjoy!
Wish you had something to do in the Poconos or that I could fly out to visit my family in Denver and meet you! Well, you had an eventful entrance into the US. Hopefully the rest of your stay here will be much less stressful. Denver is a beautiful city. Have fun!
Oooh sounds like a big and exciting adventure you are on. I hadn't even realised you were traveling to the USA!. Those explosive tests and so funny, I always seem to get pulled aside for them, but I believe they just randomly count 10 people and then pull the next one (something like that). Enjoy your trip!
I'm glad you got to the States okay. I can't believe you got searched! Lovely atrium. What's the name of the hotel? The #2 on your list made me chuckle!
That's an impressive atrium. Sounds like an eventful star for your vacation--may give you some ideas for the further adventures of Mr. Man and Yolanda. Rest up and enjoy yourselves.
What a LONG trip and then to be harrassed for explosives and drugs. Welcome to the US,haha! I am sure all countries do it, but yeesh! They pull the wrong people aside to search most of the time.
