Travelling through vast fields stretching out to distant mountains, we kept saying, "Drive Right"! Came through heavy storms, hail, thunder and lightening. You could hardly see the car in front! not altogether soothing for my fractured nerves having had an emergency experience in the hotel before we left! Sirens sounded, a loudspeaker speaking with an American accent which meant we didn't understand, said"All guests must exit the building, do not use the elevators" This went on until we watching from an above balcony (and not exiting as then we couldn't work out what was said) heard another voice (puffing) saying "Management has determined that there is no emergency"! Good grief!
The above picture indicates that gardens and fences around houses are not needed. Two houses in the desolate landscape.
Three good things:
1. Air conditioning on the inside!
2. A local bar and grill in Laramie that was so cheap we couldn't believe it.
3. Although we couldn't find "The Man from Laramie" we did find Laramie after many wrong turns!
What a great wide open space with cattle in the foreground -- Is that red clay -- must be the earth's colour and on closer view that must be a New homestead being built -- looks a fantastic place !!
Ah so this is where you have got to - a long way from home. Love those open spaces and wide horizons. Travel safely and kia kaha. I'm off to catch up on some of your earlier pics now.
The sheep are all surrounding the house....no flowers there then! Such red earth, it really stands out......a very impressive house though it looks enormous! I like the name Wyoming, it has a certain ring to it & of course The Man from Laramie just shows up my age!
Scary being in that fancy hotel & the alarm going off!
Oh dear! That's a stressful moment! So sorry! And you're in Laramie... Not much out there but wide open spaces and red rocks. Come north to my corner of the world!
Gorgeous shot, Maggiemae! Very pretty landscape. Sorry to hear about the incident at the hotel and the storm. It's not always like that. Come to the Northeast when you're done in the Midwest!
Big spaces=big storms but such a beautiful part of our country. Glad things seem to be calming down for you and that you're enjoying Laramie. I have always wanted to travel to Montana and Wyoming as well as the Dakotas. Maybe someday. If you do plan to go to the northeast, you'll have to come through Pennsylvania and visit your very, very distant Hamilton cousin!
i haven't been here much but i see you have crossed the ocean! welcome to the u. s. generally if the wind isn't blowing in wyoming then you aren't there.
Love your photo and wow, you have had some excitement and bad weather too. I have never been to Wyoming before, fun to see a photo of this part of it. Glad you found your destination.
What a pretty scene! Your hotel experience sounds unnerving. We were in Mexico once and the fire alarm went off in the middle of the night. I went running out but no one was there. After standing there shocking for few minutes I just went back to bed.
@maggiemae ,', @andreajoy oh dear I thought they were sheep.......stupid me & I have no excuse Andrea! I like the idea of them being sheep so will still call them sheep!
@happypat - don't feel bad. once i thought (with my bad eyesight and too vain to wear glasses) the bales in the fields were cows. partner never fails to remind when we drive "look, honey! your cows" when clearly they were bales. hahaha!
@maggiemae - here in america, everyone is so darn quick with the emergency buttons. unnerving and daunting especially in reall tall buildings, then you get to hear, emergency is over. welcome to america!
Dear lord! What a nightmare at that hotel! Is that a finished home in front of the red cliffs? Or under construction. LOTs of wide open spaces out there!
