At Hyde in Central Otago, the super Bike trail runs through this tunnel and out to a cafe in an old renovated house where cappuccino's and cheese rolls are on offer! One sits on 1950 style chairs and couches and views the landscape in front which at this time of the year is in a drought mode! Still a dramatic sight!
Three good things:
1. I am so thrilled to read all the comments that friends have put on 365 but I haven't been able to reciprocate owing to staying in SIL's house where internet is, 'what"?
2. Driving up different roads back home - this particular one and about 100metres of pig skin fence! Pig skins were lined one behind the other and amusingly some were holding the front one's tail in their mouths! Someone had a sense of humour!
3. Getting back home to a softish bed after two days on an ironing board!
Sounds like a wonderful place to cycle. We have a few old railways lines here which were closed down and have now been made into footpaths/cycle trails and also nature reserves. The trouble is when you are walking with your dog the bikes come up very fast - they think the trail is just for them!! Sounds good with the coffee shop!!
Beautiful capture of this once important train route. Looks better like this, I suppose. Nice to know that at the end of the tunnel one can stop for a good coffee.
Pigskin all in a row mouth to tail....sounds even more gruesome than the moles on our fences! ! Country matters are very down to earth!! This tunnel is rather scary....must be dark going through there! A big adventure though going through 'the other side '! Is that you on your bike?
Looks like an interesting area. There is a very popular program here "Rails to Trails" that does that too. Only I haven't seen one that made use of a tunnel. That would be fun to walk through.
@olivetreeann On this particular trail there are about 4 tunnels. One of them has a sound recording of a steam train coming through that can frighten you off your bicycle!
Maggie, I read the comments... and in my mind I am thinking that cyclists are riding through the tunnels with Olympic style "torches" took my brain a minute to realize it was "flashlight" for me. This would be an amazing place to explore.
you have been to one similar - or the same so don't you steady me on hahahahaha
I laughed at your #2 and #3 comments up there today. Too funny. fav
Great shot of an interesting sounding destination!
