I do appreciate all the comments that my 365 friends have made - makes my world sane and hopefully beautiful!
This is the Grand Canyon Sky Walk, Commissioned and owned by the Hualapai Indian tribe, it was unveiled March 20, 2007. I was impressed by the great processing with ticketing and shuttles that took you to three different places and the care and consideration of all the helpers. The West side of the Canyon.
The height of the precisely vertical drop directly under the skywalk is between 500 ft (150 m) and 800 ft (240 m).
Three good things:
1. I didn’t go on this Sky Walk - was the carer of all the cameras, bags etc that were not allowed on this! No photos out here, but I was allowed this one!
2. One grandson slept on all the journeys to and fro - I wonder when he will go to bed! (he was not allowed even his book to read in the car - as we were not as children also)
3. A long day. As a Grandma, I can go to bed when I want!
What an amazing place. You sure are visiting some beautiful spots. I've enjoyed seeing your photos pop up, just haven't had time to comment lately (or post my own lol). This seems to be a long trip! A good time to be away from NZ during winter.
I have seen pictures from this apparently by professional photographers and it is a scary view. I like your sideways view of it It tells a muych better story. Fantastic composition
@grammyn Thanks Katy! They only allow a certain number of people on at a time but apparently it can hold the weight of up to 120 people, and is designed to handle winds up to 100 miles per hour. Not that I'd want to be up there in any wind!
Super capture. We didn't go to the west side of the canyon when we visited. Partly because I read that you weren't allowed to take camera etc onto the skywalk.
No way you'd get me out on this thing....... And I understand it costs an arm and a leg to even go out there. What does it cost? We've been to the Canyon so many times (went to the bottom on mules and stayed overnight at Phantom Ranch there on our honeymoon), but no since this was constructed.
Took me a while to figure this out but now I've got it! That round platform must overlook part of the Grand Canyon itself...a big drop! Should have read your words closer! I would be holding the coats too!
I just love your #3 GT...we do have a few perks being older!
That would really mess with my head. Im really interested in the view behind the viewing platform. It almost looks man made. What an amazing time of travelling you are having.
This is an amazing place. The Indians feel very strongly about camera's, I've heard many reasons but don't know if any of them were true. This photo is wonderful!
Great vantage point for this shot! I've been to the Grand Canyon but not to this viewing platform. You've certainly covered a lot of ground on your U.S. journey!
@louannwarren I do wonder why no photos but it seems to be very important! After all, the good photos could spread all over the world and encourage visits!
@maggiemae So do I these days, l missed one of the races at the World Championship athletic stadium last night 'cause I fell asleep! Lightweights these days maggie! You are amazing how you keep up with all that you are doing at the moment!!
With my fear of heights, I'd be hard pressed to take the sky walk- but if I could take pictures, I might try it. But no pictures, no way! Your view is fine with me!
