At a friends place parked in their paddock overlooking the coast. They have a large pond with several pekin ducks including a mother one and 4 tiny ducklings. Due to the position of their place and even with high surrounding bushes, the ducklings are invariably picked up by large birds and taken away never to be seen again. We watched an attempt by a big black backed gull who was frightened off by our shouting. The two drakes got rough with another female and just about drowned her! She paddled to shore and proceeded to groom her ruffled feathers completely forgetting her family still paddling around by themselves on the pond. We held our breath!
Three good things:
1. In the morning the ducklings were still there!
2. The sparrows in the huge hedge next to us made such a din at dawn. However we slept in.
3. Their huge vegetable garden was a veritable wonder!
Love...mama is checking out her reflection. I feel pretty, oh so pretty, I feel pretty and witty and bright, and I pity any girl that isn't me tonight! :)
