Lost the plot with daily exercise - kept forgetting to do it! No matter. Other concerns - son in Japan with health problems, typhoons and now earthquakes. He doesn’t answer my emails but generally not good at that at all.
These are buttons - I remember a time in history where we cut all the buttons and zips out before throwing clothes out! Some nice buttons here with a bit of history too….and some imagination!
Three good things:
1. Reading previous year’s entries in my diary.
2. Labels on food now - good for finding out - if gluten, egg, dairy, sugar is in the product. Generally is - not for the table when stepdaughter visits.
3. Does chocolate have gluten? Got to check right now... Found out it has everything bad… good that it tastes so nice though!
Gorgeous buttons maggie, I used to live the button box!
Yes worrying the other morning when I put the morning news on & you hear earthquake in Japan plus typhoons! Luckily both seemed to have missed Jack & I hope your son did too! Seeme to be in the island at the top so quite a way from Tokyo. No idea about chocolate but usually anything you like has got stuff that's bad for you in it!
Great shot of these neat buttons....Back in the 70's, 80's, 90's, Seattle used to have a few neat button shops with the most unique buttons for jackets, sweaters, coats.
@maggiemae Funny that because Jack is just the opposite! I was keeping Gus company tonight because they are away & I heard this quiet little voice talking in the corner. It was Jack on the camera, he started quiet so I wouldn't jump but had been out with friends & could see me sitting on the sofa. Eight hours in front of us so it was 3.45am his time! He is in touch lots, he doesn't seem homesick though. He had rung his dad & mum in the morning. Your son will be older & a family man so time taken up with other things no doubt! Hope he's feeling better.
Lovely buttons and so many with special memories too ! As a child I had hours of fun playing with the content of the button box ! (life was simpler in those days ) I also have a button box and used to salvage buttons and zips wgen clothing had come to the end of their lives ,but then in those days I also did a lot of sewing - how the way of life has changed !! Hope all is well with your son an you will hear soon !
What a magnificent variety of buttons! They make for a great photo.
I don't envy you the chore of findein food for her! I think your idea about using just the pictures of it on the plate is the best way to go! ;~}
Old habits never die. I have a button box and I will probably never use any of the buttons in it. My Mum and Nanna always cut buttons off garments before using the old clothes for cleaning cloths. Nothing was ever wasted
@l@ludwigsdiana You are the first person to remark on that! I left it there without pointing it out! And Japan - I think they would love to come back to NZ but wife (Japanese) has family there.
@golftragic Ahh, but chocolate is well known to be Dairy Milk Chocolate and that means it has dairy products in it. Its so frustrating - the white wine we have here says, "may contain traces of milk' or 'may contain sulphites' and that means dairy and egg" Both no no's!
@maggiemae It happens so regularly that one does not even think about it. Most certainly not that the loved ones overseas hear this bad news and worry ;-)
I still have a button box..an old lady once gave me a lovely old tin.i stillsave a few but you never get beautiful one's anymore.hope son ok. I had same worry with mine last year in Usa with the hurricanesin Florida.x
@brennieb My MIL aged about 90 or so, reinvented my sewing box some considerable years ago. She put all sorts of things into plastic bags and the buttons were one of these! Japan family fine except for my son who is suffering consistently with steroids - been told to rest with feet up.... and guess what - children are lying around doing nothing! He growls but they ignore!
A lovely variety of buttons! I inherited my mother´s buttons. Hundreds of them. Granddaughters always played with them.
Hope your son is doing okay now.
I love buttons and what a variety you have. I inherited my grandmother's button jar and they've been very useful over the years. I've added to them too. This is beautifully photographed and presented.
@maggiemae Oh golly whizz, you're right, of course. What a complicated maze to pick your way through. Appropos chocolate, I prefer 80% or 85% dark, bitter and yummy.
i love buttons! when i was a little girl i remember my mother having a big jar of odd buttons, some she picked up on the street and wherever else, some from old clothes. not being interested in toys, i used to pour them on the floor and sort them out as a way to spend the afternoons away. then i put them all back! this brings some pleasant memories for me. i like it!

Hope everything sorts out well---
This reminds me of a tiny shop in York called "Duttons for Buttons" which sells only buttons. It's an amazing Aladdin's Cave!
Hope your son is doing okay now.
