* Erato is the protector of lyrical and erotic love poetry. She holds a lyre, love (golden) arrows, and a bow.
. Her name means "lovely" or "beloved" from the Greek word eratos.
Yolanda climbed up on to Erato’s knee and listened to the exotic sounds of the lyre! She really had to tell this Greek Goddess, that she knew more about love after her own experiences.!
Erato just stared into the distance and dreamed of Apollo!
I debated whether to document erotic poetry or just love prose. Sorry - had to do the latter . My face went red on reading the former!
“How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.
I love thee to the level of everyday's
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;
I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.
I love thee with the passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints,—I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life!—and, if God choose, I shall but love thee better after death.”
Elizabeth Barrett Browning
Three Good Things:
1. Erato is well covered up. She would be horrified at what young people wear nowadays
2. I’m glad today’s love scene is not so complicated but so appreciate the beautiful prose of EBB!
3. Baked potatoes in the oven ( I bet these Goddesses never had baked potato!)
Oh, Maggiemae, you can tell a story so well, Yolanda can share & learn a lot with Erato..Maybe she can recite long poems & learn to play the lyre which is so beautiful.
@maggiemae Yes- and although I did not watch these movies, I think there was a series starring Mel Gibson that involved motorcycles too but for the life of me I can't remember the name of it- Mad Max I think was his character. We also had a TV series here in the US called CHiPs (California Highway Patrol- it was plural for the two lead characters) that Mr. Man would probably have liked! It may not be as high class as the Muses, but it's right up Mr. Mann's alley- Thunder Alley that is!
