The song of the Tui by maggiemae

The song of the Tui

This one tui seems to be hanging around - our winter kōwhai is in flower. He let me have his beautiful notes while on a branch not far from my camera. It must be one of the best I've taken though others have done it too.
Thinking:
Trying to be the right person to support friends - hubby has a serious shoulder injury from falling.
Fabulous capture

A marvelous image! So sorry about your friend’s husband. Shoulder injuries are so very painful.

that is such a beautiful composition - I can almost hear the song looking at that wide open beak.

This is beautifully composed Maggiemae! It reminds me of a Japanese print.

Just confirming it is not YOUR hubby that has a shoulder injury?

You can see his little white tuft against the sky…. must be a proper name for that. The yellow sky is so lovely too, it adds greatly to the photo. Lovely capture of the different colours of feathers too.

Great picture. Love the subtle colours in the bird against the background. It has a kind of Japanese feel to it. Lovely.

@grammyn No - some very dear friends.. He has he beginnings of dementia and is getting frail so falls over easily. This time it was on the road - in his dressing gown!

@happypat The maori name for them is "poi', Pat but we - unmaori just call them tufts

@ziggy77 I don't think this is going to be a quick recovery - looks like pain and no movement for at least 3 months!

Wonderful shot of this interesting-looking bird! The lighting showing off his feathers is perfect. So sorry to hear about the poor man's fall and injury. Sounds like a difficult road to recovery.

@mccarth1 All the light was behind the bird when I took the photo - made it difficult to get all the colours of his feathers but then it might be just as well as this is rather pleasing, Kerry!
