The Kwanzan cherry tree should be full of ruffly, puffy, pink pom-pom shaped blossoms in a few weeks. The late frost in April came after it was in full bloom last year. Wonder what this year will do?
The flowering season is so sensitive. In Poland, there is a term "cold gardeners. These are the days of May 15-18, when, according to tradition, frosts come. Then many flowers fall off and there is no fruit.
It looks like a nice spread-out tree and I can imagine it would be so beautiful in bloom. The second week in May I know of as "Die Eisheiligen" translated into English "Ice Saints"
@haskar We normally don't get frost in May, but we had one this month and last year in April. We lost fruit last year. Hoping we don't lose any this year.
@marlboromaam I live near the cherry capital of France, a town called Céret - they send cherries to the President, that sort of thing. I walk my dog thru cherry orchards all the time, so I guess I've thought about bark photos - after all, it is there all the time, unlike the blossom.
@mittens Let's hope so!
