Shot in black and white. There are seven of these (each a little different) squirrel-proof houses scattered around my patch. Three are occupied by bluebirds and four are still empty.
Uploading early - weatherman calling for thunderstorms this afternoon.
I've thought about adding a bluebird house - have seen one in the neighborhood that I know was used at least one year - but I've got noisy dogs on the other side of the fence so don't know if the would keep them away. Like how you've done this
@milaniet Thank you, Milanie! I have a friend, who lives in a housing development, mounted one on a 10-foot post which when set was about seven feet tall. She has bluebirds nesting in it every year. Just make sure it faces east and there are thick shrubs near by for the babies to fledge - and they will come. You can put up a meal worm feeder for them and a bird bath. They love to bathe!
@ludwigsdiana Thank you, Diana! I feel lucky to have three bluebird pairs nesting. Hoping some chickadees and raspberry finches take the rest of them. =)
Lovely. We have some bluebirds nesting now in at least one of our nesting boxes. I'll have to get new boxes for the next season. What makes these squirrels proof?
@k9photo Thank you, Kate! The metal plate over the hole keeps the squirrels from chewing the hole wider so they can nest in them. An acquaintance of mine built these for me. But you can buy a plate and put it on yourself - if you have trouble with squirrels chewing up your boxes.
@haskar Thank you, Haskar! Yessum!
@larrysphotos LOL! It's rent free. =)
@dutchothotmailcom Thank you, Esther! Some birds will claim soon and if not this year - the next.
@pattyblue Thank you very much, Pat! Appreciate your comments.
@dkellogg Thank you, David!
@kjarn Thank you, Kathy!
