The beauty out at Pillsbury Crossing is marred by the cans and bottles and other trash left by some of those who gather there in the summer, particularly in the evening. It is a favorite hanging out spot for college kids who bring their cars out in the shallows of the creek, just off the crossing. I'm glad they can enjoy it, but why couldn't they take their trash with them? This is part of what I found in the regular parking lot (and sadly on the rocks of the creek a little ways below the falls). Some of it came home with me for recycling or trash, as appropriate. What a shame...however, in the spirit of the Eye of the Beholder challenge, I first took a few pictures of the colorful cans as they lay. I've cropped this photo but not rearranged the cans. As you can see (I noticed as I was cropping) there is a bit of someone's old sock peeking out from under the yellow can.
The world over, never ceases to amaze me why people just chuck rubbish into the environment they go to 'admire'. Does offer endless material for photographing though, like the crop and composition.
@simonpz Thanks, Simon. I don't know if folks think the trash will just go away on its own or if they don't care. In the case of this particular place, I suspect beer and other intoxicating beverages affect judgement. The folks that congregate out there are cooling off and socializing and not thinking about the beauty around them. Cigarette butts on city sidewalks affect me the same way. I think that they expect they will just melt into the ground. OK rant over.
This makes me sad. I never understood this! Why? Just take it with you...have you no garbage cans at home??? I could send you my daughter...ever since Earth Day she has been picking up garbage EVERYWHERE she goes!!!
