Wendy @farmreporter gave me this get-pushed challenge: "Go through your Favorites album and pick one of your favorites, explain what you liked about it, and try to replicate it. You don't have to produce the same photo, but replicate what inspires you about that photo. " This and another shot are inspired by this shot by Alison Tomlin @fueast:
Mine are really nothing like the original except the off-kilter slant that I liked and the feeling of looking down through a long space. The other is a rustic and abandoned interior. I had hoped to find something closer to that, but didn't have the time. So I took some experimental shots in the basement of Anderson Hall on the campus, which has figured in a number of shots I've posted here. The effect is quite different, and the two shots don't live up to my hopes. But they have some merits of their own.
@fueast I really love your shot that I used for inspiration. What I have here is quite different, though. Maybe someday I will have the time to look for a setting closer to yours.
This is great, and I agree with Graeme @graemestevens that this would work in B&W - or maybe sepia to give it that rustic feel like Alison's.
But you have captured what drew you to Alison's photo really well.
I really like this. I agree with some of the suggestions, but think a b&w with some select color (keep the red) would give a nice pop. Could this be described as something I read about a while back - a Dutch tilt?
