I'm guessing this is a juvenile Cooper's Hawk - or maybe a Sharp Shinned Hawk. I never could get a shot of his tail. He flew up from the creek and landed in this tree not 5 feet from me - I hardly breathed! I got five decent shots before he headed out again - all pretty similar because I didn't dare move. What was such a surprise, we were practically on eye level.
Wow, he is gorgeous and your shot is excellent. I love all the texture I'm looking at and he landed on a green branch which adds additional color to your shot! This is a FAV....
I'm guessing it's a juvenile Cooper's hawk, judging by the fairly thin streaking on the breast. Was it crow sized, or more the size of a Blue Jay? It's always a thrill to get close to a raptor in the wild.
