2018-01-04 driving home from Austria in difficult conditions

Driving home was not an easy task, due to heavy snowfall and wind. It took me 6 hours instead of 3 and something. But I did not need to pull on the snow chains. Hurray, as it is one of the task, I can do, but hate to. Shortly after I drove out of the Pitztal (Pitz Valley) they closed the road for security reasons and avalanche warnings, and the people in the valley are cut off from the rest of the world. On my way there have been a lot of cars, that got stuck in the snow and had to be pulled out by road help and so I was glad I have some experience driving in these conditions and made it home without greater adventures. And no worries, as I drove by myself and was nearly the only one on that road, I stoppt on the tracks to take some pictures through the windscreen. I did not drive and snap...

oooh nice looking but difficult driving conditions. We have winter tyres here instead of putting snow chains on and off. When it is snowy and white here I do the same...stop the car in the middle of a lonely road and take snaps, hahah I love the silence of snow and the sheer pleasure of it as well

Great picture Mona. All b&w! Amost the same here in the afternoon, while in the morning it is often blu and sunny.

@huvesaker Thanks Boo, we have winter tyres too. It's the law in the wintermonths. But going up steep mountains, this is not often still not enough traction and sometimes you are not allowed to go on a road, without. So sometimes you have to do the job, and you are glad when you have them in the trunk.

Glad you got home safely, lovely winter shot

There are advantages to being alone on the road. This picture certainly summarizes a setting I would not want to drive in, but I'm wondering if a set of chains would make me feel better about venturing out into the snow (rather than staying home like a coward).

Glad to hear that you are back home safe and sound. Great picture.

I love it and miss the snow so much. Best thing is when there is so much snow I have to stay home from work :)

This is such a beautiful winter scene - but sounds like very harrowing, white-knuckle driving! Glad you made it safely.

In London that weather would have resulted in a total lock down. Not sure I would have risked stopping to take a picture in case I could not start again.
