Not the best moon picture in the world but the best one I've taken so far. All I've done is crop it - no other editing. It was one of only about 5 that I took - I didn't want to stay outside any longer because I was getting attacked by mozzies!
@nickspicsnz I believe [read somewhere once] anything 200mm and above is good for moon shots, so your 200mm is within this. 300mm is better and 500mm even better ~ having said that I have trouble getting a decent shot with my 300mm for whatever reason, but get 'decent' shots with the 200mm, and I don't have a 500mm unfortunately.
Just checked out your exif details. Next time try the following as a starting point and adjust as required.
f/11
ISO 100
1/200 sec
One 'rule' I do follow for moon shots is that if I up my ISO I set my shutter to match or above eg. ISO 200 shutter 1/200 +; ISO 400 shutter 1/400 + etc
There is something called the loony 11 rule that suggests starting points for moon photos, the settings above are from that. It is just a case of finding the best for you on the day. Settings will change for each different phase of the moon
I think you did a great job and look forward to more :D
@alisonp Thanks very much for the info Alison. Hopefully I'll get a chance to practice over the weekend because the sky has been quite clear recently. 200mm is my maximum so I'll have to base the other settings around that.
