Thirsty Work being a Bird

I was quite close to the ducks taking pictures when the pigeon walked into the lake next to them and proceeded to take the longest drink ever. I've only seen birds take a beak full of water then tip their heads back to swallow like the ducks were. But the pigeon just kept his beak in the water for ages and drank before flying off.
